biography Edward Gal

Edward Gal began riding horses at age 14. Although he was a good student, he decided to pursue a life with horses, and his riding career gained momentum in the late 1990's. In 1998, he finished fourth in the PAVO Cup with the then young Kappuccino. After that, he won the NBVR (Dutch Riding and Hunting Association) national title with Kappuccino at Z2-level and claimed the championship at ZZ-Light level. Between 1999 and 2001, Edward placed second four times at the National Championship in Nijmegen (3x Small Tour, 1x ZZ-Light). A year later, he captured the Champion title in the Small Tour with Gestion Lingh.

In 1999, Edward began competing internationally and first experienced great success in the Small Tour. Soon after, he was selected for Ad Strating's Gestion team, where he quickly proved himself a valuable asset and trained several horses to Grand Prix level - Risky Business, Kappuccino, Gribaldi, and Lingh all earned impressive scores.

In 2003, Edward earned a place on the A-team for the first time with Lingh. That year, the combination represented the Netherlands at the European Dressage Championship but did not make the individual final, and the team did not win a medal. In 2004, the pair finished second in the World Cup Final in Düsseldorf, won the gold medal at the Dutch Championship in the senior division, and secured a place on the team for the Athens Olympics, although they did not compete due to an injury Lingh sustained during transport. In 2005, Edward and Lingh won the Grand Prix at the World Cup Final in Las Vegas and finished second overall. The combination also placed second in the Dutch Championship. Then Lingh was sold to American Karin Reid Offield. Edward next rose to the top at Grand Prix-level with the KWPN stallion, IPS Gribaldi.

Edward and Nicole Werner run a dressage facility in Harskamp, situated in Gelderland province. Edward's partner, Hans Peter Minderhoud, operates his business from the same location. Edward's current Grand Prix horses are Sisther de Jeu, Interfloor Next One, IPS Gribaldi, and Moorland‘s Totilas. He competes on the A-team with Sisther de Jeu and Moorland‘s Totilas, and on the B-team with Next One. Both A-team horses performed outstandingly in the Small Tour. Edward's current Small Tour horses are IPS United and Stradivarius, and both are excelling in the show ring.

At age eight, Moorland‘s Totilas made a spectacular Grand Prix debut at the 2008 Expo On Horse in Hengelo. In the winter of 2009 and in the Summer Championship, Edward and Totilas emerged the unparalleled Dutch Champions in the Big Tour. At the 2009 European Championships in Windsor, England, Edward not only made an important contribution to the Dutch team gold medal win by achieving a world record score in the Grand Prix (84.085%), he also captured the individual gold in the Freestyle with a new world record (90.75%) and claimed the silver medal in the Grand Prix Spécial!

In April of 2008, Moorland Investments became Edward's new main sponsor, under a contract that runs through the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
